Ventura goes to the mat with local media

Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura has intensified his tongue lashing of the
local TV and newspaper reporters who cover him, urging Minnesotans to
boycott local newspapers.

As reported by Tuesday’s Minneapolis
Star-Tribune
, the governor said during an appearance on a radio talk
show, “Don’t read either [Minneapolis-St. Paul] newspaper and don’t
watch the evening news, and then you will not be infiltrated with the
half-truths, the National Enquirer journalism that’s practiced
today. Listen to talk radio. I’ll tell you, it’s more accurate on
there.”

Still angry over criticism in the local news media about his
exclusive deal with ABC’s Good Morning America to cover him
during his trip to the site of the World Trade Center disaster, Ventura
said that many local reporters were just envious.

“A lot of them told
their friends and family, ‘Ooh, I’m gettin’ to go, I’m gonna follow the
governor, I’m goin’ to get to go to Ground Zero’ … and they probably
got egg on their faces.”
