Biography

Virginia Van Upp brought many screenplays to Hollywood throughout the course of her career. Upp started her career writing for films, including the Francis Lederer historical romance "The Pursuit of Happiness" (1934), "My American Wife" (1936) and the comedy "Poppy" (1936) with W C Fields. She also appeared in the dramatic adaptation "Swing High, Swing Low" (1937) with Carole Lombard and "You and Me" (1938). She continued her focus on film through the thirties and the forties, penning the scripts for "Honeymoon in Bali" (1939) with Fred MacMurray, the Madeleine Carroll adventure "Bahama Passage" (1941) and the James Stewart comedy "Come Live With Me" (1941). She also appeared in the comedy "The Crystal Ball" (1943) with Paulette Goddard and "Cover Girl" (1944). Upp last wrote the Rita Hayworth romance "Affair in Trinidad" (1952). Virginia Van Upp passed away in March 1970 at the age of 68.
