Wayans brothers countersue lawyers over unpaid invoices spat

Comedy brothers Shawn and Keenan Wayans have hit back at their lawyers over allegations of unpaid invoices, insisting the lawmen carried out services without their clients’ authorisation. The acting siblings were named as defendants in a lawsuit filed by bosses at S & E Azriliant in Los Angeles earlier this month (Oct14). The defendants accused the Wayans brothers of failing to settle bills totalling more than $63,000 (£39,400) for legal services provided between 2008 and 2009.
However, the Wayans have now fired back at the allegations in a countersuit, insisting they never entered a written agreement for the company’s legal advice or services and only allowed them to prepare “specific income tax returns”.
They claim New York-based lawyers Sidney and Evan Azriliant acted without “authorization, agreement or approval” and without the proper permits when they set up multiple firms in California under the brothers’ names, and then tried to invoice them for the extra services.
Keenan and Shawn Wayans are seeking a declaratory judgement confirming that they are not liable for the cost of services allegedly performed.
