We need to talk about Ezra Miller

After almost 15 years of performing, at age 28, Ezra Miller has become a household name in Hollywood. With their impressive acting resume, eclectic sense of style, and razor-sharp cheekbones, it’s not hard to be completely intrigued by the actor.

Although Ezra Miller has made a name for themself in the acting world, they are so much more than that. Their main goal is to break artistic boundaries and stereotypes, defying all conformity. We are LIVING for this type of energy, especially in 2021.

In an interview with GQ Magazine, Ezra Miller told the reporters that they use them/them pronouns, stating “in a pointed refusal to be gendered. I don’t identify as a man. I don’t identify as a woman. I barely identify as a human.” Fans all over the world praised Ezra Miller on their announcement, as it showed representation to non-binary people all over the world.

It’s difficult to put a human of such depth and intensity in a box, but we can at least look at Ezra Miller’s journey to stardom.

Who is Ezra Miller?

Ezra Miller was born in 1992 in Wyckoff, New Jersey to Marta and Robert Miller. Their mother was a modern dancer and his father a senior vice president of a book publishing company. Their mother comes from German and Dutch ancestry, and their father is Jewish.

At age 6, Ezra Miller began singing opera in order to help them overcome a speech impediment. They attended school up until the age of 15, until dropping out to pursue acting. Their first film, Afterschool received fantastic ratings and this helped Ezra Miller land their breakout role as a deranged teenager in We Need to Talk About Kevin, based on the Lionel Shriver book. This film will forever be referred to as Ezra Miller’s breakout role. Ezra Miller went on to star in some pretty big movies like The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Fantastic Beasts, and The Flash. With all these amazing Ezra Miller movies, it’s only fair to review them to understand why we love Ezra Miller so much.

Ezra Miller Movies: Afterschool (2008)

In Afterschool, Ezra Miller plays a prep school student who accidentally films the death of two classmates and then is responsible for putting together their memorial video. Ezra Miller’s performance is intelligent and gripping, proving that even at such a young age, they had what it took to be a star.

Ezra Miller Movies: We Need to Talk About Kevin (2011)

The 2011 film, We Need to Talk About Kevin is one of those films (and book) that leaves an emotional bruise. The book is so well written and one of my favorites, so it only makes sense to cover this Ezra Miller film. The storyline follows a mother (played by Tilda Swinton), who is grappling with her son’s hateful and violent tendencies. Ezra Miller plays Kevin, a disturbed teenager, who’s only goal is to spite his mother.

When the film was released in 2011, Ezra Miller sat down with Vanity Fair and talked about playing a psychopath, and why they were attracted to playing this character.

“I read the screenplay and it was this amazingly dark character who I could understand on many different levels. I could understand the intellectual justification that he was weaving for himself to rationalize his actions. More than that, I could really relate to something at the core of his emotional experience—something that could be followed through his memories to the earliest moments of his life, which was the basic notion of motherly attention.”

It was clear that Ezra Miller played the character so well because their performance received great reviews and it was clear this was just the beginning of a promising career for Ezra Miller

Many fans tweeted about the film to commend Ezra Miller on such an amazing performance.

Ezra Miller Movies: The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012)

In the coming of age drama, Perks of Being a Wallflower, Ezra Miller was tasked with playing Patrick, a flamboyant and eclectic character in the film. In typical Ezra Miller fashion, their performance is both fearless and heartwarming.

In an interview with Hollywood.com, Ezra Miller explained how they came to understand his character.

“The book is written so beautifully from the perspective of Charlie — so when I was 14 years old I read it as Charlie; I saw it initially through Charlie’s eyes,” says Miller. “But then when I got the script and started reading it I simultaneously came to the realization that I had to do this film — it was the next project that I all of a sudden felt thirsty for — and then at the same time I realized that it had been 4 years [since I last read the book] and I was 18 and I found myself in much more of a Patrick situation. And so yeah, from there on out it was clear to me and it was just a matter of convincing all those other people.”

Ezra Miller Movies: Fantastic Beasts

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is a fantasy film directed by David Yates and serves a spin-off and prequel to the Harry Potter series. In Fantastic Beasts, Ezra Miller plays the mysterious Credence Barebone, who appears shy and withdrawn and is seemingly much more vulnerable than other characters in the film. According to reviews, Ezra Miller’s performance stole the show, and they went on to star in the second film, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. The third film of the series, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 3 is in the pre-production stages but is set to be released in 2022. Watch the trailer for the first Fantastic Beasts movie here.

Ezra Miller Movies: The Flash (2022)

In the 2017 superhero movie, The Justice League, Ezra Miller plays The Flash and takes center stage of the film. So much so, that they were asked to star in a movie of their own.

There is some new Ezra Miller content to look forward to in 2022, as the actor will dive deeper into the superhero world by playing The Flash. Ezra Miller will star alongside plenty of Hollywood stars like Ben Affleck, Michael Keaton, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Nicholas Cage

The film was originally set to be released in early 2022, but because of the pandemic production has been pushed back significantly. DC Comic fans are ecstatic about the release of the film, and Ezra Miller as the star just adds another layer of excitement. Fans took to Twitter to express their anticipation for the new film. While Ezra Miller steals the spotlight in essentially every movie they’re in, they steal the show on the red carpet as well.

Ezra Miller – An actor and style icon

Ezra Miller is not only a promising young actor, they are a gender-fluid style icon. The actor has been hailed for their dramatic and genderless looks, singlehandedly destroying toxic masculinity. The actor does not abide by gender rules and it’s clear, because Ezra Miller’s duality comes so easily to them.

In recent Playboy Magazine photoshoot, Ezra talks about their gender fluid style and the polyamourous lifestyle they live:

“I’m trying to find queer beings who understand me as a queer being off the bat, who I make almost a familial connection with, and I feel like I’m married to them 25 lifetimes ago from the moment we meet.”

Some names that come to mind as “style icons” of our generation are Jaden Smith and Harry Styles, but they are very active on social media and attend public events very frequently. Ezra Miller assumes more of a lowkey presence, both on social media and with attending public events. The actor is not active on any social media and does not make frequent public appearances, but when Ezra Miller shows up, they absolutely steal the show.

In an interview with GQ Magazine, Ezra Miller breaks down their top five style icons.

Their style influencers included Jessica Rabbit, Oscar Wilde and Rihanna. This is such an odd combination of people, but it weirdly makes sense. Let’s be honest – who doesn’t love Rihanna?

At the 2019 Met Gala, Ezra Miller had all eyes on them, literally.

Ezra Miller has worn everything from floor-length puffer coats to women’s cocktail dresses, making them a hot commodity in the fashion world. Designers such as Valentino and Givenchy have fought to have Ezra Miller wear their designs. Let’s take a look at some of Ezra Miller’s most iconic outfits.

Conclusion

Ezra Miller started their career with humble beginnings with smaller roles and indie films. In We Need to Talk About Kevin, Afterschool, and Perks of Being a WallFlower, Ezra Miller came crashing into our lives with their quiet charm and mysteriousness which isn’t terribly common in Hollywood.

Their ability to rock any look, and throw the idea of gender conformity right out the window is progressive and refreshing. It almost makes us wonder why style is even gendered in the first place.

In 2021, Ezra Miller is living a bit of a simpler life on a farm in Vermont, caring for chickens and goats, but this certainly doesn’t mean this is the last we’ll hear from them.
