Weezer and Panic! at the Disco concert abandoned due to storm

Rockers Weezer and Panic! at the Disco were forced to abandon a Missouri concert due to a major thunderstorm.
The bands were due to perform outdoors at Maryland Heights’ Hollywood Casino Amphitheater on Tuesday (19July16) before a crowd of 17,000 people.
According to editors at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch at around 7.45pm, after support acts had performed and the stage was being readied for the headliners, the gig’s promoter Dave Gerardi told audience members that they should return to their cars or remain in covered areas of the largely open air venue and await further instructions.
The Amphitheater was then lashed by a major thunderstorm and high winds for around two hours, delaying any chance of the rockers performing until it was too late for them to fit their sets in before the 11pm curfew imposed by Maryland Heights city officials.
As a result, Gerardi returned to the stage to announce that the gig would be postponed and that he was already in negotiations to reschedule the concert for another date.
In a post on the Panic! at the Disco Facebook page, the band’s photographer Jake Chamseddine blamed the abandonment on lightning restrictions, writing, “Tonight’s show was postponed due to lightning restrictions. Hopefully we can get back here soon and play for you. Thank you everyone who came out and be safe getting home.”
Taking to Twitter, one disappointed fan with the username @Iggy wrote, “Not sure who Mother Nature was angry with Weezer or Panic! At The Disco But I’m pretty sure I lived through minor tropical storm last night.”
At the time of WENN going to press, a new date for the gig was yet to be announced.
