Westlife: ‘Beyonce inspired us to take charge of our career’

Westlife were inspired to be more involved in their career choices after watching Beyonce’s Homecoming documentary.
The Formation hitmaker released the clip on Netflix earlier this year (19), detailing her journey to the stage for her headline show at the 2018 Coachella festival. And while the concert movie was a hit with fans, Irish boyband Westlife confessed to Britain’s Daily Star newspaper that watching the performer gave them a new lease of life.
“I remember watching the Beyonce documentary and it was funny you could see how much of a captain she was on her own ship and for a long time we used to let people do it for us,” singer Kian Egan shared. “But after watching that documentary I remember ringing the boys up and going, ‘Have you seen the documentary? Watch it, we need to be in charge, we need full control.'”
Kian’s bandmate Mark Feehily agreed, and confessed the group wanted to move away from their “clean image” and let fans see their “true personalities”.
He went on to share that the group have filmed the entirety of their current The Twenty Tour and have plans to release it in some form in the near future, adding: “We are filming everything at the minute and once we have all the footage we’d like to see what we can do with it.”
Westlife will wrap up the European leg of their tour on 6 July before heading to Asia for a second string of dates later that month.
