While Zac Efron’s professional journey from High School Musical to John F. Kennedy assassination flick has been marred by Nicholas Sparks and one less than sanitary encounter with Nicole Kidman, we all thought it was safe to say that he was one Disney kid who emerged into adulthood unscathed. Turns out, however, that while Efron didn’t land behind bars or twerk on the national stage like some of his peers, he faced his own share of demons.
E! News revealed Tuesday that Efron completed a stint in rehab five months ago. And yet somehow, we’re only hearing about it now. According to E!’s source, Efron is “healthy, happy and not drinking. He’s taking time to focus on working.”
Really, it’s a testament to Efron that he was able to be proactive about facing his issues and tackle them in a mature, private way. Nice try, Disney monster, you’ve been thwarted again.
