Country singer LeAnn Rimes will have to stick to her contract.
A judge told Rimes that she cannot be released from a recording contract, approved by her and her parents in 1995 when she was 12 years old, with Nashville-based Curb Records. Soon after the contract was signed, Rimes became a singing sensation with her hit single, “Blue.”
“I hate you,” Rimes reportedly told her father, Wilbur Rimes, after the ruling.
Rimes is also suing her father for over $7 million in earnings that she alleges her father and co-manager cheated her out of. The elder Rimes has been reported saying he was “very hurt, but confused” by his daughter’s remark “because I had nothing to do with the proceeding.”
Rimes issued a statement last month apologizing to fans for her latest album. She says Curb produced it without her “creative input.”
