Alex Lifeson: ‘Rush are basically over’

Rush star Alex Lifeson has broken fans’ hearts by revealing the rockers are unlikely to record or tour again.
The guitarist tells Canada’s Globe & Mail there are no dates or recording sessions on the horizon, adding the band is “basically donw” after over four decades together.
“It’s been a little over two years since Rush last toured,” he says. “We have no plans to tour or record any more. We’re basically done. After 41 years, we felt it was enough.”
But don’t expect Lifeson to retire – he’s busier than ever.
“I’m writing a lot,” the 64-year-old Rock & Roll Hall of Famer adds. “I’m writing on four or five different little projects. I get these requests to do guitar work with other people. It’s really a lot of fun for me. It’s low pressure. I get to be as creative as I want to be and I can work a little outside of the box, which is really attractive to me.”
He also revealed he is writing a column for Toronto monthly West End Phoenix.
