Damson Idris remembers Snowfall creator John Singleton

British actor Damson Idris lead the cast of Snowfall in remembering the show’s creator, the late John Singleton.
Idris plays ambitious drug dealer Franklin Saint in the 1980s-set drama, which tells the story of how crack cocaine was brought into the African-American community to fund America’s war on drugs. And ahead of the premiere of the show’s third season on Monday (08Jul19), he and the rest of the cast paid tribute to Singleton, who passed away in April after being taken off life support shortly after suffering a stroke.
“On the Snowfall set we have a saying… and that’s that John Singleton hasn’t left,” Idris shared in an interview with The Root. “You know we keep a chair on set with his name on it and no one sits in it. And fortunately Singleton was there to write every episode this season. Although he’s gone, he’s still with us.”
The Black Mirror star shared that Singleton, who was best known for directing 1991 movie Boyz n the Hood, for which he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Director at the age of 24, also taught the 27-year-old some lifelong lessons.
“He taught me as a black person to always think of your community first,” he shared. “As long as your community welcomes you, you’ll always have a home.”
