David Nail: ‘Depression can never be cured’

Country star David Nail will “always” be plagued by his long battle with depression.
The Let it Rain hitmaker went public with his personal struggles in 2014, admitting he had been dealing with the condition in secret for a decade.
Nail received professional help when the illness became too much to handle on his own, and he wanted to share his troubles with fans in a bid to aid others in similar situations.
The star has since become a father to twins with his wife Catherine, but despite the joys of his family life and career, he admits depression will never be far behind.
In a lengthy note posted on Twitter early on Friday (21Apr17), he wrote, “Depression is always in the back of my mind. It doesn’t hang around for months at a time like it used to, but it still pops up now and then.
“It doesn’t matter how good your life is going, or what a wonderful family you have. Someone can hand you a million dollars, and it will smother any joy you feel right into the ground. The more you try and ‘look at the bright side’, the worse it makes you feel.”
David goes on to assure fans he has found a way to deal with the deep sadness he experiences, but it’s something he will never fully recover from.
“I know now, that with medicine, and therapy, I’ll eventually wake up one day soon without the weight of it wearing me down,” he continued. “But when you’re in the middle of the storm, it can make you feel as bad as you’ve ever felt.
“Much like a drug addict, I know I’ll deal with this the rest of my life. There are far more good days than bad, but when the bad ones do come, they can paralyze. If you ever find yourself feeling this way, know there are so many helpful options you can seek out. And while you won’t ever be ‘cured’, you’re (sic) quality of life will greatly increase.”
