Diana Quick fumes over cell phone disruption on stage

British actress Diana Quick embarrassed the owner of a ringing cell phone during the opening night of her new play by chastising them from the stage. The film and TV star is currently appearing in The American Plan at London’s St James Theatre and she was furious when a cell phone began ringing from the crowd during the show’s debut on Monday (08Jul13).
Quick tells Britain’s Daily Telegraph, “A mobile had started ringing at precisely the same point at a preview on Saturday, so this time I knew precisely what to do. It happened just as my character was admonishing her daughter for smoking, so I turned not to her, but to the miscreant in the audience, and said pointedly: ‘That’s an awful habit.'”
The actress’ co-star Emily Taaffe then changed the script to retort, “Yes, it certainly is.”
Quick adds, “It’s never done deliberately, but it is a bore for everyone, and it makes life hard for the actors, particularly in a play as delicately nuanced as ours.”
