James Strong to direct J.R.R. Tolkien biopic

Filmmaker James Strong is developing a movie about English writer J.R.R. Tolkien.
The Doctor Who director will helm Middle Earth, a biopic which will centre on the turbulent times that led Tolkien to write The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. It will focus on his relationship with his wife, Edith Bratt, and his experiences in wartime, which helped to inspire his books.
The script has been written by Angus Fletcher and produced by Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne, who ironically worked on Peter Jackson’s hugely successful The Lord of the Rings film trilogy.
A timeline for the project has yet to be revealed, but it will reportedly be shopped to buyers at the Berlin Film Festival in Germany next year (17).
