John Connolly elected AFTRA head

Character actor John Connolly was elected president of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists Saturday at the conclusion of a two-day convention in St. Paul. He will succeed Shelby Scott, who chose not to run for a fifth term. Asked why the union, which represents top television journalists, barred the news media from attending the convention, Scott told the online media magazine Inside: “We’ve got a lot of performers who speak their minds about problems they have,” she said, “and if reporters are there, they may write about it, and the producers may hear about it, and we really have to protect those people.”
