Michael Bell remembers The Smurfs co-star Lucille Bliss

The 96-year-old actress, famed for providing the voice of Smurfette in the popular children’s series, passed away on 8 November (12) after a battle with a staph infection and pneumonia.

Bliss’ longtime co-star Bell, who voiced Grouchy Smurf, Lazy Smurf and Handy Smurf in the show, has now spoken out to honour her memory.

He tells TMZ.com, “Goodbye Lucille. You were the stuff Smurf dreams were made of. I know Lazy Smurf dreamed about you… Handy Smurf made you lots of things you didn’t need… and Grouchy secretly had your pin-up calendar over his head. You had more energy and grit than all of us blue boys put together. You were the original Smurf ‘It’ girl… and you will be sorely missed.”

Bliss also voiced cartoon characters in The Flintstones, 101 Dalmatians, Cinderella and Alice in Wonderland throughout her career, and her most famous role of Smurfette was reprised by pop star Katy Perry in a 2011 movie reboot of The Smurfs.
