Reg Traviss blasts Amy Winehouse documentary

AMY WINEHOUSE’s former boyfriend REG TRAVISS has criticised a forthcoming documentary about the late singer, branding the filmmakers “lazy” over their portrayal of the star.
The Back to Black singer is the subject of Amy, a movie by Senna director Asif Kapadia documenting her life and struggle with substance abuse which is set to debut at the Cannes Film Festival in France in May (15).
Film producer Traviss, who was dating the singer at the time of her 2011 death, was interviewed for the movie but the footage was removed from the final cut, and he has now spoken out against the project.
Traviss tells Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper, “I’m concerned about the way Amy is portrayed. There is a need to be truthful. They interviewed people very close to Amy but it would seem those accounts, having seen it, were put to one side in favour of a lazy journalism portrayal. A fictional film based on real life events gives you creative licence but a documentary biopic is something quite different. There is a responsibility.”
Last week (ends26Apr15), Winehouse’s father Mitch announced plans to sue filmmakers because he is not happy with the way his family has been portrayed, and he has also expressed his dismay that his daughter’s boyfriend was not featured.
Mitch adds, “They’ve painted a picture of Amy over the last three years of her life and excluded Reg. Not to have Reg in the film is ridiculous.”
Winehouse died from alcohol poisoning, aged 27.
