Rob Marshall, the man behind Chicago, Into The Woods and the new Mary Poppins movie, has emerged as the frontrunner to direct Disney’s upcoming The Little Mermaid movie.
Sources tell Deadline Marshall has been offered the chance to adapt the live action adaptation of the animated classic, which will feature new songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Alan Menken, and he’s taking the holidays to consider directing.
He has become a Disney favourite after taking charge of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Mary Poppins Returns, which stars Emily Blunt as the beloved flying nanny. That film is currently in post-production.
