Robert Smith signs up The Libertines for his Meltdown festival

The Cure frontman Robert Smith has signed up The Libertines and the Manic Street Preachers to perform at his edition of London’s Meltdown festival.
The Goth rocker, 58, is curating this year’s (18) event, which takes place over 10 days in June at the Southbank Centre, an arts complex in the British capital.
Among the other acts on the rock filled Meltdown bill are Deftones, Placebo, Nine Inch Nails, The Psychedelic Furs, Mogwai, and My Bloody Valentine.
In a statement announcing the lineup, Robert said, “I am honoured and excited to be curating the 25th Meltdown. More than 30 of my all-time favourite artists – some of the most exciting, inspirational, intense and influential performers of the last 40 years – will make sure this 10-night extravaganza is the must-see event of the summer!”
Announcing their gig at the festival, The Libertines wrote on Twitter, “Very proud to be part of Robert Smith’s Meltdown this coming June. This will be a real experience, and a chance to play a stunning venue space alongside some incredible artists.”
Robert follows in the footsteps of Patti Smith, David Byrne, David Bowie, Nick Cave, Jarvis Cocker and M.I.A. in curating the event.
Expressing his delight at the acts he’d signed up, The Lovecats singer added, “As each invitee confirms, as each shimmering piece falls into place, I pinch myself – this is really happening… And the complete picture will undoubtedly be out of this world!”
More artists will be confirmed as performing at the event before it gets underway on 15 June.
