Tom Walker soars to top of U.K. albums chart

Scottish singer-songwriter Tom Walker’s debut album What A Time To Be Alive has shot straight to number one in the U.K. albums chart.
Tom, the winner of the British Breakthrough at this year’s (19) Brit Awards, narrowly beat soft rock legend Bryan Adams to the top spot in Friday’s (08Mar19), Official Charts Company rundown.
Following his triumph, the delighted musician told OfficialCharts.com: “To everybody who has bought, supported and just been absolutely lovely about this record, who have come to the shows and been there since day one, here we are. Thank you so, so much. Thank you for the support. This is next level!”
Bryan’s latest record Shine a Light is also a new entry at two, knocking last week’s number one, Ariana Grande’s Thank U, Next down to three. The cast recording from movie musical The Greatest Showman is at four, while another movie tie-in, the soundtrack to the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, completes the top five.
Another Scot, Lewis Capaldi, is at the top of the singles rundown for a second week with his track Someone You Love, just ahead of his countryman Calvin Harris’ collaboration with Rag’n’Bone Man, Giant, at two. Mabel’s Don’t Call Me Up rises to three, pushing Ariana’s Break Up with Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored into fourth place. Another of her tracks, 7 Rings rounds out the top five.
