Zach McGowan cast in Pearl Harbor drama Ni’ihau

Dracula Untold star Zach Mcgowan is taking on the lead role in historical drama Ni’ihau.
The actor will also executive produce the film about a World War Two incident on the Hawaiian island of Ni’ihau.
Zach will play island leader Ben Kanahele, who came to the aid of an Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service pilot, called Shigenori Nishikaichi, after he crashes. Kanahele subsequently learned of Nishikaichi’s part in the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941 and apprehended and killed him.
He was later honoured by the U.S. government.
The incident on the island leads to prompted then-U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt to issue an order giving U.S. officials power to intern almost 120,000 Japanese-Americans to camps until the end of the war in 1945.
The movie will begin shooting at the end of the month (May17) at Pinewood Iskandar Malaysia Studios. Gabriel Robertson will make his feature directorial debut on the film, which he has also wrote.
“I see circumstance as the true antagonist of this story,” Robertson says. “These characters, once placed in this situation, were driven by their initial instincts: to help a stranger in need. Indeed, it wasn’t until circumstance forced their hands that the characters desperately turned to violence.”
