Highlights

After his mother left the family, he and his father frequently moved, living in various communes.

Made professional stage debut as Oberon in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream.
Landed his first leading film role in Ken Loach's 1990 dramedy Riff-Raff. He reteamed with the director for 1996's Carla's Song.
With fellow actors Caroline Patterson and Stuart Davies, he cofounded the award-winning Raindog theater company in 1991, where he directed productions of Macbeth and One Flew
