With his camera-ready looks and impeccable stage training, it was only a matter of time before Gibson found success on screen. Involved in community theater since his youth, the handsome brunette won a scholarship to New York's prestigious Juilliard School and after graduation, he began racking up impressive classical stage credits. By the late '80s he was appearing in guest spots and soaps, but he became a name during the next decade with a series of memorable small-screen turns: a philandering husband in the Tales of the City miniseries, an arrogant doctor on Chicago Hope, and finally, a pent-up yuppie with a wacky wife on Dharma & Greg. Although Gibson primarily acted as his loopy costar Jenna Elfman's foil on the sitcom, he earned a pair of Golden Globe nods for his work. After it went off the air, he headlined a string of TV-movies before taking on the role of an FBI agent in the hit procedural Criminal Minds, opposite Mandy Patinkin, his former Chicago Hope costar.
