Filmmaker and screenwriter Livia Gyarmathy is best known as a director of Hungarian documentaries, but she is also known as a screenwriter and director of feature-length comedies. Filmmaking is her second career. Originally she worked as a chemical engineer in a Budapest factory. She and her husband Géza Böszörményi decided to become filmmakers together. In 1964, she graduated from the Academy of Theater and Film Art, and four years later, her husband graduated. They then began writing screenplays for each other's films.
