His television appearances include guest-starring roles in series such as Kate and Allie, performances on soap operas like As the World Turns, and television miniseries like I'll Take Manhattan. Hecht made his feature film debut playing a rabbi in the caper comedy Only God Knows (1974). He has subsequently appeared in a variety of supporting and co-starring film roles.
