Famed early '50s singer Bob Manning is best-remembered for crooning such standards as "The Nearness of You," "All I Desire," "Venus De Milo," and the tender "My Love Song for You," which he sang live on a 1954 episode of Jackie Gleason's The Honeymooners. The Philadelphia-born Manning gained experience singing for Ziggy Elman's band in the late big band era and also sang for Art Mooney's and Tommy Dorsey's orchestra before signing with Capitol Records. Manning appeared in one feature film, an episode of the long-running Penny Singleton-Arthur Lake series of Blondie films. Manning died of pneumonia on October 23, 1997, at the age of 71.
