Producer Lindsay Doran has spent her entire career within the film industry. Born and raised in Los Angeles, CA, Doran graduated from the University of California at Santa Cruz and then moved to London where she was a contributor to The Oxford Companion to Film and The World Encyclopedia of Film. Upon her return stateside, Doran worked as a producer of local documentaries for a Pennsylvania television station. She began working at the L.A.-based Avco Embassy Pictures in 1979. While there, she served as the creative affairs director and then a story executive, working on films like The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia (1981). She was appointed vice president of the company shortly after it became Embassy Pictures. In 1985, Doran was hired as senior vice president of production at Paramount and played a key role in launching the career of director John Hughes. Four years later, she became the president of Sydney Pollack's Mirage Enterprises, where she remained through the 1990s, overseeing such films as Kenneth Branagh's Dead Again (1991), Pollack's The Firm (1993), and the remake of the 1954 romantic comedy Sabrina (1995). In addition to working in feature films, Doran has also produced a few television movies and one series, Fallen Angels (1993-1995), for the Showtime cable network.
