Costume designer Enrico Sabbatini specialized in lavish historical productions for movies, theater, and television both in his native Italy and internationally. Historical accuracy, simplicity, and realism were hallmarks of Sabbatini's designs. In 1986, he received an Oscar nomination for re-creating 18th century dress in Roland Joffe's The Mission. Sabbatini learned his craft under Italy's famed designers Marcel Escoffier and Giulio Coltellacci. While working with the latter, Sabbatini clothed Sophia Loren in C'era una Volta/More Than a Miracle (1967). Through the '60s, Sabbatini worked with some of Italy's most famous directors, including Vittorio De Sica and Dino Risi. He designed costumes for his first U.S. film, Bloodline, in 1979. Sabbatini's Hollywood films also include Old Gringo (1989) and Seven Years in Tibet (1997).
