Innovative video director John Dorr founded EZTV in West Hollywood in 1979. Believing that video technology could make a filmmaker out of anyone, the studio and exhibition center offered young filmmakers low-priced editing and technical support. Following graduation from Yale, where he served as president of the school's Film Society, Dorr began writing, teaching, and making over 100 videos in various capacities. In 1988, he created the EZTV Arts Foundation to give independent video-makers a place to show their work. As a feature film director and screenwriter, Dorr debuted in 1979 with Sudzall Does It All. He died in 1993 while filming a feature-length documentary on Robert Altman and the production of Altman's film Short Cuts, entitled Luck, Trust & Ketchup: The Making of Short Cuts.
