Writer Ted Tally has had a steady career of crafting screenplay adaptations. He started out in 1987, writing the made-for-TV movie The Father Clements Story, starring Louis Gossett Jr. For his first feature film, he adapted Glenn Savan's novel for the romantic drama White Palace, starring Susan Sarandon and James Spader. In 1991, he won his first Academy award for The Silence of the Lambs, adapted from the Thomas Harris novel. The success of this film put him on the map as a screenwriter and earned him several other nominations. He experimented with different genres for his next few films: the sci-fi Mission to Mars, the dramatic thrillers The Juror and Before and After, and the Western All the Pretty Horses. In 2002, he adapted Red Dragon, the prequel to The Silence of the Lambs. His next project was adapting the Valerio Manfredi novels for Baz Luhrmann's epic Alexander the Great, scheduled for release in 2005.
