Taiwanese director Fred Tan was most noted for his 1988 film Rouge of the North, the riveting story of an opium-addicted mother living in the early 1900s. He earned a law degree from National Taiwan University and....
Taiwanese director Fred Tan was most noted for his 1988 film Rouge of the North, the riveting story of an opium-addicted mother living in the early 1900s. He earned a law degree from National Taiwan University and studied film at the U.C.L.A. Film School. In 1975, Tan moved to Hollywood to work as an editor and film critic for the China Times. He made his directorial debut in 1986 with Dark Night. In 1989, Tan was in China during the student uprising at Tiananmen Square. Afterwards, he contracted acute hepatitis and died of it in early 1990.
