Workman-like technician who began turning out low-budget Westerns for Republic in 1937. By the mid-1940s Sherman worked his way up to medium-budget oaters and various fare for Columbia and Univeral among other studios. He directed John Wayne in "The Three Mesquiteers" series at the beginning of the actor's career, and his final film, "Big Jake" (1971), once again starred Wayne. All said and done, Sherman rustled up over 100 films and approximately 250 TV segments.
