His soundtracks were respected for their sparseness and mood-enhancing subtlety and he worked with some of the era's best filmmakers including Rene Clair and Julien Duvivier. He was killed while fighting in WW II. During the '70s and '80s, contemporary directors such as François Truffaut rediscovered Jaubert's music and used it in their films.
