Acclaimed symphonic and operatic composer who began writing film scores in the mid-1940s and enjoyed consistent success in the field. Rota is best known for his 25-year association with Fellini--notably on "La Strada" (1954), "La Dolce Vita" (1959) and "8 1/2" (1963)--and for his work on Visconti's "The Leopard" (1963) and Coppola's "Godfather" films.
