Before WW II, Jean-Paul Le Chanois (born Jean-Paul Dreyfus) worked in French films as an editor, screenwriter, assistant director and a lyricist. As an assistant, he worked with such greats as Duvivier, Renoir and Ophuls. Though he actually made his first solo feature film, Heart of the Storm during WW II, it was not released until after the war. In the meantime, Dreyfus joined the French underground and began calling himself Le Chanois. Later he kept the name professionally. His subsequent films are noted for their traditional and humanistic style. Le Chanois often worked on the screenplays of his films.
