Maurice Seiderman was one of Hollywood's premiere makeup artists. Orson Welles considered him to be the world's finest makeup man. Born the son of a makeup artist with the Moscow Art Theater, Seiderman came to America in the early '20s and began working in the makeup department at RKO. He first worked with Welles in 1940 and earned the young auteur's respect when he successfully turned the young Welles into a convincing old tycoon. Welles wanted to give credit to Seiderman, but the current head of the RKO makeup department insisted that only his name be posted. Seiderman continued working with RKO and was eventually appointed head of the department.
