Breaking into the British film industry as assistant cameraman in 1946, Gerry Fisher worked his way up to camera operator on such major productions as The Devil's Disciple (1959), Suddenly Last Summer (1959), Guns at Batasi (1964) and Modesty Blaine (1966). The last-named film was directed by Joseph Losey, whose 1967 feature Accident served as Fisher's debut as full cinematographer. He has since worked with directors Sidney Lumet, John Huston, and the two Wilders: Billy (Fedora) and Gene (The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes' Smarter Brother). Fisher's singular gift in his British films has been his ability to convey an authentic "period" feel, even in such spoofery as Marty Feldman's The Last Remake of Beau Geste (1977). Gerry Fisher's American projects have included Running on Empty (1989), Cops and Robbersons (1993), and the made-for-TV The Positively True Adventures of the Alleged Texas Cheerleader-Murdering Mom (1993).
