Luigi Chiarini is best remembered as the founder of one of the world's most prestigious film schools, the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in 1935. This school has turned out many of the world's greatest directors. Chiarini was also a prolific and influential film writer. In 1937, he created the film journal, Bianco e Nero. In 1962, he helmed the Venice Film festival, where he was considered a bit heavy-handed. Eventually he was tossed out, and he returned to academia. Chiarini also directed a few films, but they were unexceptional; he was however a good screenwriter. One of his most notable scripts was for De Sica's Indiscretion of an American Wife (1953).
