After a successful career as a Broadway and West End performer, Bruce arrived in Hollywood in 1934 and worked steadily as a character actor until his death in 1953, all but patenting the bumbling but essentially well-meaning comic Englishman. Best known as Dr. Watson to Basil Rathbone's Sherlock Holmes.
