French screenwriter Jean Aurenche began his film career directing commercials and documentary shorts. In 1936 he turned to screenwriting in collaboration and also alone. Among his writing partners were Anouilh, Archard, and most particularly, Pierre Bost, with whom he wrote dozens of scripts for some of French cinema's finest films.
