Songwriter Joe Lubin began contributing directly to motion pictures in 1957 with the title song to the low-budget girl delinquency drama The Green-Eyed Blonde. He moved up to bigger, more prestigious productions, starting in 1958 with the Doris Day feature Teacher's Pet. From there, apart from providing a song for Don Siegel's The Gun Runners, an ill-fated attempt to remake To Have and Have Not, Lubin was associated onscreen exclusively with Day, who used his songs in five subsequent movies over the next eight years, including It Happened to Jane, Please Don't Eat the Daisies, and Pillow Talk. He was later the head of the music and publishing unit of her production company, and subsequent to that worked for television producer David Dortort as a composer and lyricist on The High Chaparral and Bonanza. As a songwriter, he also co-authored the rock & roll classic "Tutti Frutti." His songs later turned up in Date With an Angel and The Big Shot.
