With a career spanning more than 50 years and three Oscar nominations, film editor Robert Swink was a frequent collaborator of filmmaker William Wyler, with whom the editor did some of his most notable work. After beginning his career in a film-editing apprenticeship at RKO Studios, Swink briefly cut training films for the U.S. Army during WWII. After the war, he rejoined RKO, and later Paramount Studios in 1952, where he began his collaborations with Wyler in films including Carrie (1952), Roman Holiday (1953), and Funny Girl (1968). After retiring in 1989, Swink was honored with a lifetime achievement award by the American Cinema Editors, which was presented to him by Gregory Peck. On August 15, 2000, Robert Swink died of natural causes at the age of 82.
