American playwright Charles A. Kenyon came to Hollywood in 1915, to adapt his own stage hit Kindling for the screen. Kenyon's assignments in the 1920s ranged from John Ford's western epic Iron Horse to the first filmization of Edna Ferber's Show Boat. At Warner Bros. from 1930 to 1941, Kenyon contributed to the screenplays of such films as Night Nurse (1931), Midsummer Night's Dream (1935) and The Petrified Forest (1936). Making a rare foray outside of Warners' Burbank headquarters, Charles A. Kenyon collaborated on the Universal musical smash 100 Men and a Girl.
