American playwright Gladys Unger occasionally adapted her works for the screen in the silent era. Unger's stage efforts London Pride and Goldfish were filmed under their original titles, while Starlight came to the screen as The Divine Woman (1928). She co-scripted Cecil B. De Mille's first two talkies, Dynamite (1929) and Madam Satan (1930). Gladys Unger later specialized in literary adaptations, notably Universal's Charles Dickens films of the 1930s, Great Expectations (1934) and The Mystery of Edwin Drood (1935).
