A Hollywood producer active from the 1930s to the late '70s, Jacque Mapes served as associate producer to such films as Rosie! and the 1970s disaster movie mainstay Airport. Most active as a television producer in the 1970s, Mapes was a key player in getting megastar Drew Barrymore her very first professional film role (as a baby boy in the 1978 telepic Suddenly, Love), and enjoyed a working relationship with Fred Astaire with the melancholy made-for-television A Family Upside Down (1978). Mapes also maintained an extended personal-professional relationship with fellow producer Ross Hunter (The Lives of Jenny Dolan [1975] and The Best Place to Be [1979], in addition to the aforementioned films). Mapes died of natural causes in May 2002 at his Beverly Hills home. He was 88.
