Born Jan. 12, 1968 in Aldershot, England – around the time the Beatles released their historic White Album – Heather Mills would go on to fame and fortune as the second wife of widowed Beatle, Paul McCartney, who lost first wife Linda McCartney to breast cancer in 1998. Following a whirlwind romance with the former Beatle, Mills would marry Sir Paul in 2002, but after giving birth to daughter Beatrice in 2003, would be locked in a bitter divorce with McCartney over custody and alimony in 2006. Apart from her obvious fame as Beatle wife – and a widespread figure of derision for Beatle fans following the acrimonious divorce proceedings heard round the world – Mills was, in fact, a rabid activist for Adopt-a-Minefield and relentless advocate for animal rights. Following an accident in 1993 in which she was hit by a police motorcycle when crossing a London street, the former model had to have her lower left leg amputated at the knee and wear a prosthetic limb. It was this condition that caused many a raised eyebrow when Mills was announced as one of the contestants on the fourth season of the dance competition phenomenon, "Dancing with the Stars" (ABC, 2004- ) in 2007. Coupled with professional dancer Jonathan Roberts, Mills would be the first contestant to compete with an artificial limb, and humorously remarked in the show's promos, "My biggest concern is that my leg not fly off."
