In 1970, Allen segued to directing helming (and co-scripting) "Pinocchio/The Erotic Adventures of Pinocchio". Other big screen features include "Thunder and Lightening" (1977) and "Avalanche" (1978). Allen has had greater success as a TV director, mostly of detective genre fare (i.e., "Hawaii Five-O", "The Rockford Files", "Simon and Simon", etc.). He earned an Emmy for an episode of the acclaimed NBC drama series "Hill Street Blues". Among the numerous TV-movies he has directed include "Cry Rape!" (CBS, 1973) and "The Ann Jillian Story" (NBC, 1988).
