In a unique set of circumstances, television comedy legend Ed Asner ended up as only actor to win both Comedy and Drama Emmys for playing the same character, Lou Grant. He first hit it big as the crusty, heavy-boozing TV news producer on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” (CBS, 1970-77), before the spin-off drama “Lou Grant” (CBS, 1977-1982) repositioned him as a serious editor at a big city newspaper who faced ethical dilemmas every week. A New York Stage actor from the 1950s, Asner enjoyed decades of top notch work on big and small screens, but was also dedicated to working on behalf of all actors, as witnessed by his longtime dedication to the Screen Actors Guild....
