Noted champion of independent filmmakers who personally and through his Du Art Film Laboratories and Du Art Video Corporation has provided various forms of assistance to fledgling directors and documentarians including Susan Seidelman, Spike Lee and Michael Moore. Young joined Du Art upon graduation from Lehigh University, serving as president and chairman of the board as well as president of the Western Broadcasting Corporation of Puerto Rico.

As an independent producer in his own right, Young has been involved with several festival award winners and has worked closely with his brother, producer- director-cinematographer Robert M. Young, as associate producer on the Venice Film Festival winner "Nothing But a Man" (1964, directed by Michael Roemer), as producer "Alambrista!" (1978), winner of the Cannes Film Festival's Camera d'Or and as executive producer of Edward James Olmos' "American Me" (1992).
