Founding member and former lead vocalist with of the rock group Genesis who turned solo in the mid-1970s, scoring such pop hits in the 80s as "Shock the Monkey", "Sledgehammer" and "Big Time". Gabriel's songs have been used in several movies and in 1984 he composed his first original score for Alan Parker's "Birdy". His established interest in "world music" made him an appropriate choice as composer for Martin Scorsese's "The Last Temptation of Christ" (1988); his haunting music proved to be one of the film's strongest features....

Founding member and former lead vocalist with of the rock group Genesis who turned solo in the mid-1970s, scoring such pop hits in the 80s as "Shock the Monkey", "Sledgehammer" and "Big Time". Gabriel's songs have been used in several movies and in 1984 he composed his first original score for Alan Parker's "Birdy". His established interest in "world music" made him an appropriate choice as composer for Martin Scorsese's "The Last Temptation of Christ" (1988); his haunting music proved to be one of the film's strongest features. Gabriel also received the music credit for Wim Wender's globetrotting sci-fi road movie "Until the End of the World" (1991) which boasted a truly eclectic collection of tunes.
