Striking Asian player of stage, TV and film who first made an impact as Dennis Quaid's wife in "Come See the Paradise" (1990), Alan Parker's WWII-era drama about Japanese relocation camps in the US. Tomita began on stage, appearing in West Coast productions of "Don Juan: A Meditation" and "The Winter Crane". (The latter won her a DRAMA-LOGUE Award.) She segued to film starting with "The Karate Kid Part II" (1986), as Ralph Macchio's Japanese girlfriend. Her TV credits include two telefilms about the Hiroshima bombing during WWII. Tomita followed up as one of the four American-born daughters to Chinese immigrants in the powerhouse Asian ensemble of "The Joy Luck Club" (1993). In 1996, she made her TV series debut in the environmental drama "The Burning Zone" (UPN).
